One of the most frequent questions I have gotten during my pregnancy is what my pregnancy skincare routine is. I have written a post on it before but I just added some new products to my routine so I wanted to give y’all an update on everything.
I see a skincare guru in Charlotte named Blair Hayes and she is AMAZING! She seriously is so educated in skincare and I even have some blogger friends like Alexa Anglin who have reached out to her for her skincare guidance. Since I just turned 30 this past year, I really wanted to start a skincare regimen recommended to me from a skincare specialist so I reached out to Blair. She owns the company Skin By Blair and I seriously cannot recommend her enough. If you have any skincare questions at all, she would be more than happy to help! You can always send her a DM on Instagram (@skinbyblair) or shoot her an email!
She recommended a skincare routine for me to follow that is great for anti aging and pregnancy safe. I have been following it for the past month and my skin has never looked better. Blair actually just wrote an entire blog post on skincare and pregnancy. If you are pregnant I highly suggest reading it by clicking here. It is a great resource.
Blair says during pregnancy, you typically want to follow these rules:
-
No retinols/retinoids
-
No salicylic acid over 2%
-
No glycolic acid over 10%
-
No hydroquinone
-
No benzoyl peroxide
So let’s get started with my new skincare routine!
Skincare Routine (morning and night):
Step 1: Cleanse with Papaya Enzyme Cleanser – Instead of using stronger acids such as glycolic acid, this cleanser uses fruit enzymes (which are less drying) to gently brighten and cleanse the skin. I love how gentle this cleanser is and how good it smells. You can just tell that it’s doing such great things to your skin.
I also still cleanse with my Tula Purifying Face Cleanser. I have been using this cleanser for years and love it so much so I decided to still incorporate it into my skincare routine. I normally cleanse with the Papaya Enzyme Cleanser first and then cleanse with the Tula cleanser. Remember, you can get 15% off ANY Tula products by using my code MUMU.
Step 2: Momma’s Blemish Reducer – These pads contain 5% glycolic acid which again is great for fighting acne and limiting the red marks it leaves behind after it heals. When first starting out, Blair recommends starting with one every 2-3 days and gradually working up to every day as tolerated. I have loved these pads. They sort of act like a toner for your skin. I can tell my hormonal acne has greatly been reduced after using these pads. I also use them on my chest and back to get rid of hormonal acne caused during pregnancy and they work wonders!
I also use this Tula Pro-Glycolic Resurfacing Toner right after the blemish reducer pads. It is something that I have used for years before pregnancy and it is pregnancy safe so I wanted to continue using it! This toner is amazing. I simply put a small amount on a cotton pad and then gently rub all over my face. Use code MUMU for 15% off.
Step 3: Vitamin C 20% Serum – Vitamin C not protects your skin from collagen breakdown and also helps stimulate collagen production. In the words of Blair, “If you’re not already on one, get on a vitamin C ASAP!”. I have loved adding this to my routine. It smells amazing and a tiny drop goes a long way.
Step 4: Hydrating Serum – This serum contains hyaluronic acid – an ingredient that is able to hold 1000x its weight in water. Just a tiny bit applied to the skin draws in moisture instantly, leaving your skin ultra hydrated. I have LOVED this product. I can tell my skin is way less dry and it just feels like you are giving your skin a full tank of water. I use 2 little pumps all over my face and neck.
Step 5: Phyto + Botanical Serum – This is a soothing serum designed to help improve skin discoloration without irritation. It improves the appearance of dark spots and promotes an overall brighter, more even and radiant complexion. I have always had a problem with discoloration from acne scars on my face and this stuff has helped tremendously. A little goes a long way!
Step 6: Skinceuticals Eye Cream – This eye cream is AHHHMAZING!! It is a firming eye treatment that works to correct visible signs of aging while decreasing puffiness and dark circles. It supports collagen production, and boosts the skin’s ability to repair itself. With regular use, sagging skin is diminished, dehydrated skin is revitalized, and the eye area appears youthful, healthy and bright. I have heard so many great things about this eye cream and I am so glad that I finally tried it. It is one of the only eye creams I’ve ever used that has not irritated the skin under my eyes. A little goes a long way. You just gently rub it underneath your eye and on your eyebrows. I can’t recommend this enough!
Step 7: Creme de la Blair – This is an ultra-rich moisturizer, ideal for dry skin. Not only will your skin immediately feel and appear dewy, but it soothes any irritation the dryness may have caused. It is also great for sealing in your skincare products. This stuff feels AMAZING on your skin and it is such a great quality skincare product. Trust me, your skin will thank you just like mine has.
I also still use my ride or die Tula Hydrating Day & Night Cream. This is one of my all time favorite moisturizers for your skin that I have used for years. It is super hydrating and a little goes a long way. I put a little of this on morning and night right after I apply the Creme de la Blair. Use code MUMU for 15% off.
Step 8: MORNING: Tinted Moisturizer with SPF – This tinted daily moisturizer helps to correct, protect, conceal, brighten and hydrate your skin. It also minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while vitamin C provides antioxidant benefits. It also contains SPF which is SO important in your skincare routine because it protects your skin from any sun damage. Being in my 30’s, it has been extremely important for me to start wearing an SPF every single day. I use this on days that I am not going to be wearing makeup because it is tinted and gives my face a good natural glow.
On days when I am going to be wearing makeup, I use this Tula Protect + Glow Daily Sunscreen Gel. This SPF gel is amazing and gives your skin the prettiest dewy glow. It also smells so good and isn’t super heavy. It is one of the best daily sunscreens I’ve ever tried. Use code MUMU for 15% off.
NIGHT: Drunk Elephant Face Oil – This facial oil moisturizes, nurtures, and balances while restoring a youthful glow. I love putting a small amount of this as the last step in my skincare routine before I go to bed. It helps all of my other skincare products soak in to my skin and I wake up with a good glow. Wearing a face oil at night is good, especially if you have a ceiling fan in your room like we do! It just helps the other skincare products really soak into your skin for maximum benefits.
So there you have it! There is my new pregnancy safe day and night skincare routine! I have loved it so much and have already noticed such a difference in my skin. I know it seems like a lot of steps but getting a good skincare regimen is so, so important so all of these steps will be worth the benefit that your skin will receive. Please let me know if you have any questions and remember to check out Blair’s pregnancy + skincare blog post here.
I also wanted to quickly add in some other products that I LOVE using. They aren’t necessarily apart of my “morning and night skincare routine” but they are worth mentioning.
- Botanic Tree Stretch Mark + Shea Butter + Prevention – This is the most amazing product to put on your belly during pregnancy. It helps with the prevention of stretch marks and also helps to heal any stretch marks that you already have. You can also use this on other areas of your body. I use this morning and night. Use code KATYCODE10 for 10% off.
- Botanic Tree BellyButter Stretch Mark Intensive Care – This belly butter is AMAZING. Take my word for it. I have been using this since the beginning of pregnancy and I love it. I use this and the stretch mark prevention cream mentioned above together. I put the belly butter on last. I also use this morning and night. Use code KATYBUTTER10 for 10% off.
- Tula Face Filter Blurring & Moisturizing Primer – This is hands down the best face primer I’ve ever used and I have tried a lot. I put it on every single day right before I put my makeup on. It seriously makes your skin looked airbrushed and goes on so smoothly. My makeup lasts all day. Can’t recommend this enough! Use code MUMU for 15% off.
- Tula Cooling & Brightening Eye Balm – This Eye Balm instantly awakens, cools & brightens the look of undereyes. It reveals a natural looking, dewy glow. I use this under my eyes every single day with or without makeup. It feels so cooling on your eyes and really helps to wake your eyes up. It’s something that you have to try to understand what I’m saying because feeling the sensation it gives your skin is such cool feeling. I keep one in my purse too so that I can apply it as needed! Use code MUMU for 15% off.
- Black Mask Face Mask – I’ve been using this face mask twice a week and I absolutely love it. Blair swears by this face mask and I can see why. It cleanses, exfoliates and soothes the skin. This face mask has a moist after-feel and deeply cleans the skin, ridding it of impurities and excess sebum. Great to use twice a week. Your skin will thank you. 🙂
- Tula No Makeup Replenishing Cleansing Oil – This is what I use every day to take my makeup off. It is a very gentle oil that feels great on your skin and it does such a good job at taking your makeup off. I apply a nickel sized amount into dry hands and run onto my face (dry). It gentle removes all makeup and then I wet my face and apply my cleanser. Code MUMU for 15% off.
- Tula Exfoliating Sugar Scrub – This is one of my favorite exfoliators for your face. It smells like lemons and works extremely well. I use this at least once a week to exfoliate my face before applying self tanner. It is also great to exfoliate your face in general so I highly recommend trying this one out! Code MUMU for 10% off.
XOXO,
Katy
