I hope that everyone had a great weekend! My husband and I went to his annual work Christmas party on Friday night and we had the absolute best time. It was the first time we have really been out in Charlotte in a while so it was a lot of fun. Can y’all believe that Christmas is only 8 days away?? I am so excited. We are going to Raleigh to be with my husband’s family Thursday-Saturday then coming back to Charlotte to host Christmas with my family which I am really looking forward to. I absolutely love hosting and having people over at our house. Something about it just makes me so happy. 

If any of you are looking for a last minute Christmas outfit, I think that this look is so cute and perfect for any event. It is perfect for any Christmas party or just simply wearing on Christmas day. I am absolutely in LOVE with this red leather skirt. I mean, how cute is it?? It also comes in black and I love how it is high waisted and has the cutest bow in the front. I originally bought a sweater to wear with this skirt but ended up liking the look of this simple turtleneck with it more. The skirt already makes a bold enough statement that I think you can easily wear it with a very simple top. I decided to pair this look with my favorite leopard print pumps and I think they go with the outfit perfectly. What do you guys think? I can’t get enough leopard lately! For sizing reference, I am wearing a 0 in the skirt. I think it runs a little big so if you are in between sizes then I would definitely size down one size. 

A couple of weeks ago I was watching a Joel Osteen sermon on TV and the message really hit home with me and I just had to share it with you guys. I think it is a message that we could all relate and learn from. The title of the Sermon is “Run Your Own Race” and Joel spoke about how it can be so tempting to go throughout life competing with everyone. From being a blogger, I see this happen to people all the time and I sometimes find myself doing it as well. It is so easy to look at everyone else, see how successful they are, and turn around and compare yourself. This type of mental behavior only leaves us feeling inferior every single time. I have seen it ruin relationships time and time again, even in my own life. 

In the sermon Joel says that when we see someone who is more talented, better looking, or has more gifts, instead of running our race and being comfortable with who we are, a lot of the times we feel inferior and think “I’ve got to catch up with them”. He tells us that the problem with this unhealthy competition is that it’s a never ending cycle. There will always be someone ahead of us in life. He states that it is very freeing when you realize “I’m not competing with you. I understand that I am not in competition with my friend, my neighbor, or my co-worker. Instead, I am going to focus on being the best person that I can be.” 

I think the overall takeaway from this message is that when you focus on who God has made you to be, that is when you will rise up higher, be happier in life, and position yourself for every single blessing and gift that God has for you and your life. God gives different gifts to different people for different reasons. He allows things to happen in different people’s lives at different times. We may never understand these reasons but we have to trust that God’s timing and purpose is always perfect. It is so easy to fall into the trap of comparison but it is only going to steal your joy. Instead, be happy for others, realize and be thankful for the gifts that God has given you, and praise other people’s successes just like people would do for you.
