Whether you choose to store your handbags in your closet, on open shelves or in a chest of drawers, there are a few key ways to organize them so that they stay in good condition and are easy to grab when you need them.
Sort by season
One way to store your handbags is by season. This is especially helpful if you have a lot of purses.
To be fair, it feels like all the seasons run together here in the south – it’s summer for most of the year and then gets freezing cold, with not too much in between.
But it still might be helpful to organize your purses so you can grab one quick if you’re trying to style some really cute denim shorts in the summer or wanting to find something to match your dress you’re wearing to a fall wedding.
Sort by occasion
Another way to store your handbags is by occasion. This is helpful if you have a lot of luxury handbags that you only want to pull out for very special occasions.
You can have them separated by work bags, casual bags, special occasion bags, etc.
Sort by color
A third way to store your handbags is by color. If you like to bring lots of color into your wardrobe with your handbags, this may be a great option for you.
This probably wouldn’t work if you had a closet full of Louis Vuitton bags or darker handbags that are all one color.
To prevent dirt and germs from getting on your bag, you may want to purchase a dust bag specifically made for pursues. These bags allow air flow but still provide protection against dirt and debris.
Many luxury bags come with these, but if not, you can try these purse dust bags that are great from Amazon!
If you chose to store your purse on a shelf or hanging in a closet, you’ll want to clean it off periodically to avoid mold growth and damage to the fabric. To do this, simply take your purse outside and shake it well to remove excess dust and dirt. Then, wipe it down with a damp microfiber cloth.
When it comes to maintaining the shape of your purse, you’ll need some sort of stuffing to fill its interior. There are several different types of material that can be used to hold your purse together, including cotton balls, tissue paper, and even rolled-up socks.
If you don’t want to risk damaging your purse, try placing a small piece of foam cut into a square or rectangle shape within the bottom compartment. This will help give your purse structure and keep it from sagging over time.
How To Store Handbags So They Keep Their Shape
This is going to very much depend on how big your space is.
I’m so lucky to have my blogging room with built in closet shelves that I can just set most of my handbags out, but if that’s not an option for you, it might be helpful to look into a purse organizing hanger!
A handbag hanger allows you to hang multiple handbags vertically either by the handles or the dust bags. This way you can easily see what handbags are missing without having to dig through a purse pile.
Another option for clutches or smaller bags is an acrylic vertical divider to put on a shelf or on a flat surface somewhere.
In my blogging room, I have my purses on display – some in their boxes or dust covers.
However, if you have larger handbags, you may find that your closet shelves aren’t wide enough to hold them.
Super big pro tip: You shouldn’t store your handbags in a light area where light does not shine directly onto them.
You also never want to store them near heaters or air conditioning units. They can dry out leather and fabric, causing cracking and peeling. And if your handbag gets wet, you should immediately take it off the shelf and wipe it dry.
There are many ways to store handbags, depending on what you want to use them for and how much space you have.
Hopefully with these simple tips, you can easily keep your purses and handbags organized without spending tons of time searching for the right one.
Try out some of these storage solutions and see which one works best for you!
